 INTERMUNDOS>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>IS

Intermundos is a communication Project that started in 2000 in Bogotá, Colombia. Its purpose is to create channels of communication between local cultural groups and movements with the youth of the world, threw documentaries, information centers, radio programs, events, art, articles, exchange and the internet.

Cultural globalization is taking place unilaterally, that is from north to south. The important values and knowledge that are traditional to, or arise from marginal cultures are not being intergraded in this process. Intermundos contributes from the south, threw communication and art, so that these values and knowledge may multiply, and in this way also affect the diverse processes that have originated from globalization.

The project started by working with the Colombian hiphop movement, and it is in this area that it has grown the most. We have an office in Bogotá, that also serves as our information center. This center focuses on collecting material related to hiphop culture at the national and international level, so as to share it with Bogota’s youth. Events and workshops are also organized related to the hiphop movement and we have a weekly radio program.

The site intermundos.org:

When I started this web site I decided to start working without a fixed plan, I did not want it to be a site with predetermined functions, a fixed format, a color scheme and a menu that makes its navigation easier. I simply wanted to start and let it grow, as a plant grows, orienting itself to the suns position, sharing space with its neighboring plants and evolving according to a gardeners trims…for me this web site is something alive. It mutates, grows, gets sick, has problems and could maybe die.
I haven’t made the site navigation obvious; the visitor has to search for the buttons in the interface, just as one must find one’s way in life.

The web site is still in its beginnings. I plan to add more multimedia sections that represent the cultural aspects of diverse indigenous tribes. Also new gift sections with video clips from Colombia, audio samples and flash animations. The existing sections will also grow and new audio visual reports implemented.
